Gavin Ralston Logan Ancestry Tour Glasgow

This afternoon I am presenting the image (taken this morning) of a memorial to a couple who died at sea during WW2:

  • Captain Gavin R Logan who died at sea as a result of enemy action on Feb 17th 1940 age 42.
  • Gavin's wife Janie Elizabeth Smith who was lost at sea on Jan 19 1942 age 46.
The memorial can be found in Eastwood New Cemetery.

Gavin Ralston Logan was the Master of the SS Baron Ailsa which was torpedoed and sunk on the date given. He and a fireman were the only crew members to lose their lives.

and he is also commemorated on the Giffnock War Memorial.
