This morning, we experienced continuity of another cold spell. As the skies were clear I went out to a local park to obtain a few pics from nearby Rouken Glen. Below are some chunky icicles close to a waterfall and below that are a couple swans navigating around the ice on their frozen pond. The cold weather is forecast to continue with heavy snow for the Shetland Islands and temperatures as low as minus 15C in the Highlands.



Most of the day I was preoccupied with tour related matters including:

• Detailed itinerary for a group tour scheduled for September.
• A short tour of Perthshire in June.
• A Whisky Tour.
  

Ancestry Research: This is an interesting sideline for me. I posted information on Morrison family history to my separate GlasgowAncestry blog which, sadly, recorded the deaths of three young children at a major rail accident in Yorkshire in 1913.

The extreme cold weather continues in Scotland. This is now a once in 30 year perhaps once in 100 year event which is causing a range of problems across a wide sphere spanning roads, trains, schools, fuel deliveries, frozen pipes and even treacherous walking on the frozen pavements (sidewalks).

Today, there was a plus side in that overnight Glasgow had a light deposit of snow subsequent to which we had the benefit of bright sunshine and blue skies-a great combination for photographs!

I had not planned to venture out today but I could not resist the photo opportunities adverted to above so I took off to nearby, Rouken Glen where I obtained the portfolio of images provided below.

In past times Rouken Glen was an industrial area but is now a public park amenity with golf course and is very popular with local residents and their dogs.



Here is a shot of a waterfall with frozen lake to the left.

This is, in fact another waterfall, although difficult to see through the frozen trees.

This morning was dry so I took myself of to Rouken Glen to obtain some autumn scene images.

Rouken Glen is a fascinating place, located on the south of Glasgow. In the past it has been a gentleman's estate, an industrial area and an army camp (WW1). It is now a pleasant and extensive park containing a wide variety of trees, a waterfall, a golf course and formal gardens. Not surprisingly, the park is very popular with dog walkers and southsiders for general exercise. A vet practice was recently established at one of the entrances, no doubt to capitalise on he passing canine footfall!

My vi st proved rewarding as the trees and leaves provided quite a colourful spectacle producing some interesting, seasonal images. It would have been nice to have some sunshine but this is Glasgow in October!

This afternoon was the culmination of some three consecutive days of rain in Glasgow which has resulted in some minor flooding incidents.

This afternoon, I visited Rouken Glen park through which flows the Auldhouse Burn. (Burn is Scots word for stream or river). Here is a video clip of the gushing waterfall in the midst of the park. Quite awesome for such a normally docile stream.

This afternoon, I a paid a visit to Rouken Glen, south of Glasgow. This is a public park adjacent to which is a Victorian walled garden associated with a former mansion. Both in the park and garden are signs of the colours of Spring, principally crocus, daffodils and polyanthus all of which served to brighten up a rather dull afternoon.

This morning, we benefited from an unusual sunny period which allowed me to venture out and take a short video of people feeding the waterfowl, including a pair of swans, on a frozen Rouken Glen pond.

This morning, Glasgow was covered in a layer of snow from heavy overnight falls. The following image and video clips were taken in course of my trip around local park, Rouken Glen, during continuing snow falls.

Light conditions were, inevitability, poor but gave rise to some interesting effects.

The snow shut down most of Southern England but Glasgow escaped relatively lightly.

This evening I am presenting some images taken by my associate, Simon during a recent visit to Rouken Glen park, Glasgow Southside.

Rouken Glen has much wildlife and scenery. There is also an adjacent golf course. The park is very popular with dog walkers.
